Parents: Watch Out for Wax Marijuana

Metro parents need to be on high alert: a new form of marijuana popular among teens is starting to circulate in the Kansas City area, according to officials from one Johnson County, KS crime lab.

ARCpoint Labs of Kansas City is sharing what you need to know about wax marijuana.

What is Wax Marijuana?

Also known as butter and honeycomb due to its texture, wax marijuana is a very potent form of the drug that resembles lip balm.

Wax is made by extracting the main psycho active compound in marijuana, Tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC. Making it can be dangerous, as certain ingredients like butane are flammable and can cause explosions.

According to drug experts, wax marijuana is the strongest form of the drug. Users say just one hit can create a daylong high, with dosages equaling 20 marijuana cigarettes. Wax marijuana is over 80% pure THC, thanks to the butane extraction process. With its strength comes quicker high and more powerful psychotic and hallucinogenic effects.

Like other forms of marijuana, wax marijuana is legal in Colorado, but not in Missouri or Kansas. It is also illegal under federal law.
